Governor Abbott may post on Facebook about how "Texas teachers are among the BEST in the nation," but his actions tell a different story. While he publicly praises our hardworking educators, behind the scenes, he and his billionaire backers are pushing voucher programs that would siphon millions of dollars away from our already underfunded public schools and underpaid teachers. Texas ranks 46th in the nation in education funding, and many teachers are struggling to afford basic needs like healthcare and rent.

Let’s not be fooled by empty words. Our public school teachers don’t need hollow praise—they need fair pay, affordable insurance, and the resources to educate the next generation. Just take a look at what two commenters had to say:
But instead of investing in public schools, Abbott’s far-right allies want to funnel public funds into private schools, leaving Texas students and teachers behind. Voucher programs have been rejected by the Texas Legislature for decades because they simply don’t work. They hurt rural communities, fail to support special education students, and leave middle and lower-income families footing the bill for private school tuition.
We need leaders who will fight to fully fund public education and stand up for our teachers. That’s why I’m running to ensure public dollars remain in our public schools, supporting the 5.5 million Texas students who rely on them.
Together, we can stand up to Governor Abbott and his wealthy backers and ensure that public education stays a priority in Texas.
Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Erin Shank
