Could Texas Go Blue?

The latest poll from The Hill shows Kamala Harris is just 3 points behind Donald Trump in Texas. This is about more than just the presidential race—this shift in momentum has the power to create real, lasting change in our state. If we seize this moment, we can finally push back against the policies that have hurt Texans for too long.

Texas has long been a Republican stronghold. The last time a Democratic presidential candidate won Texas was in 1976. For decades, Texas has been seen as out of reach for Democrats, but that narrative is changing. With the state's growing diversity and shifting demographics, the gap between Republicans and Democrats has been narrowing. In 2020, Biden came within 6 points of Trump—closer than any Democrat in decades. And now, with Harris within 3 points, we have a real chance to flip Texas and create a wave of progressive change.

From underfunded public schools, where the voucher scam will result in sending our tax dollars to children already attending private schools, to harsh abortion restrictions with no exceptions for life or health of the mother, rape or for disabled girls like my little girl Rachel, Texas has been ground zero for far-right extremism. But this poll tells us that change is within reach. A surge in support for Harris can energize down-ballot campaigns across the state, including ours, giving us the momentum we need to win and enact progressive policies.

We have a unique opportunity here. If we capitalize on this momentum, we can make sure every child has access to a well-funded public school and that women’s rights are protected, not stripped away. But we can’t do it alone.

Together, we can turn the tide in Texas and make real progress. Let’s seize this moment.
