Texans, the November 5th election is fast approaching, and the deadline to register to vote is just around the corner on October 7th. But before heading to the polls, it's essential to ensure your voter registration is active and up to date.
Recent efforts by Texas officials to remove ineligible voters—over 1 million in total—mean that even if you believe you're registered, you should double-check. I have heard a report that thousands of voters have been removed or suspended from the voter rolls here in McLennan County and so it is vital that we all check our status so that our vote counts on Election Day. Changes in address, name, or other circumstances may have affected your status. If you're on the "suspense" list, it’s crucial to confirm your registration before the deadline to avoid complications on Election Day.
Check your voter registration status:
1. Go to the Texas Secretary of State's website to verify your registration.
2. You’ll need one of the following to log in:
- Your Texas driver's license number and date of birth,
- Your first and last names, date of birth, and county,
- Or your date of birth and your Voter Unique Identifier (VUID), found on your voter registration card.
If you’ve recently moved or changed your name, update your information as soon as possible to ensure your vote counts.
What if my registration is in suspense?
If your registration is marked as “in suspense,” don't worry! You can still vote by updating or confirming your address before the deadline. If you’ve moved to a different county, you may need to vote in your previous county for this election.
Not yet registered?
You have until October 7th to submit your voter registration application. The easiest way to register to vote here in McLennan County is to go to the Elections Office, in the Records Building Downtown, 214 N. 4th Street, Suite 300, Waco, Texas 76701 and fill out an application. This is the place where we register our vehicles…the Elections Office is in the basement of that building. You can download an application off of the Secretary of State’s website, but you have to deliver it or mail it to the Elections Office in downtown Waco before October 7, 2024.
Online voter registration is NOT an option in Texas. You must hand deliver or mail your voter registration application and it must be received by October 7, 2024.
Voting is your voice—make sure you’re heard this November. Double-check your registration, spread the word, and make sure your community is ready to vote!
Together, we can ensure that every Texan's vote counts. Visit the Texas Secretary of State's website and check your status today!
