I’m writing to you from the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, but there’s urgent news from home that I need you to be aware of—we are officially heading to a Special Election!
Waco’s Texas State Representative, Doc Anderson, resigned from the Texas House of Representatives last week. Governor Abbott has ordered a Special Election to fill the remainder of his term. This election will take place on November 5th, simultaneously with the General Election.
That means you’ll be voting for me twice in one day on two separate ballots. I will be on the General Election ballot with all of the other candidates. However, you will also be given a separate, second ballot on November 5th and can vote for me again that same day on the Special Election ballot so that I can serve out the remaining two months of Doc Anderson’s current term. I was in Chicago at the national Democratic Convention when I got the news. I had 72 hours to fill out my Special Election Application, have it notarized, get a cashier’s check for the filing fee, and federal express everything to Austin. I left the convention, got it done, and I have received confirmation that my application has been timely received by the Texas Secretary of State’s office. I have been an attorney for over 40 years. I know how to get things done, and I do not miss deadlines.
You can read about the Special Election in the Waco Tribune here.
This election is critical. I will fight the voucher scam, and Pat Curry will vote for it. I will fight against these harsh laws that are literally killing our girls because Texas has no exceptions for life of the mother, health of the mother, rape, incest, or any exceptions for disabled girls like my precious daughter Rachel.
As a mom, small business owner, and one of McLennan County’s most senior attorneys, I know what it takes to fight for what matters most. I’m ready to bring that fight to Austin, but I can’t do it without your support. We need to rally together to ensure victory on both fronts.
This is a pivotal moment for our community, and we need leadership that’s ready to step up. Your support—whether through spreading the word or volunteering—can make all the difference. Together, let’s send a strong message on November 5th.
Erin Shank
Candidate for the Texas House of Representatives, HD 56
